Writing Nature

This summer we ran an environmental art and nature writing project at Browick Road Primary and Nursery School in Wymondham. We explored their lovely wildlife garden, held creative conversations, searched for facts and then created poetry, text and art. The children, inspired by the environment, took part in immersive stories such as The Little White Calf who wants to walk to the moon, the Garden of the Gods and the battle over who can create children, or what happens when the songs of all the birds are stolen in the fable of the Miracle Egg. The children’s results are original and exciting. Older year groups learnt about the tragic plight of the last northern white rhino, Fatu, alone since her mother Najin died. She survives, guarded by an armed ranger in a rhino sanctuary in Kenya. We went on to explore local endangered species and make extinction boxes.
